Your budget doesn’t have to be a barrier in keeping you from adding color to your home. Here are 11 cheap ways to add color to your home that will quickly and instantly make a difference.
Cheap Ways of Adding Color
Accent Pillows
Accent pillows are a great way to add pops of color to any room in your home. Throw pillows also add texture and pattern to a room which are basic design elements. You can purchase accent pillows inexpensively at Walmart, Wayfair or Amazon.

Paint Furniture a Color
Painting a piece of furniture is a great and low-cost way to add color to a room. Pick a color that complements your existing decor and instantly you can turn a boring piece of furniture into a focal point in a room.
If you don’t want to paint a whole piece of furniture, try paint just the sides of drawers. This is what I did to my daughters dresser to incorporate all of her favorite colors.
Throw Blankets
Like accent pillows, throw blankets can add some life and color to a boring room. Plus blankets are great to have on hand to snuggle up with loved ones for a family movie night.
Artwork & Photography
A room with neutral walls is the perfect backdrop for artwork or photography. You can inexpensively make your own artwork on a blank canvas from a craft store, check the Incredible Piece of Artwork I made for $5.

Flowers & Plants
There are many benefits of having plants inside your home. Plants improve indoor air quality and can cheaply add color to a room. If you have flowers growing in your yard cut some and put them in vase on your dining table for a pop of color. If you don’t have a green thumb, add air plants or succulents that are hardy and don’t need to much care to live.
Lampshades
Changing up your lampshades is a quick way to add color and pattern. You can inexpensively purchase a new shade at Target for less than buying a whole new lamp.If you don’t want to buy a new lampshade you can also repaint the lamp itself. For the price of a bottle of spray paint, about $3-$5, you can transform a dated lamp into a trendy accent in a space.
Paint Doors
Add some color to a boring hallway by paint a door a color. This is an low-cost way to add an unexpected pop of color. If you want to add color and function, paint a door with chalk paint. Then you can leave messages for your children. Plus chalk paints now are available in more than just black.If painting a whole door in a color scares you, try just painting the side of the door. I did this to my daughter’s bedroom door. Whenever the door is open you get to enjoy that subtle accent color.
Table Runners
I prefer table runners over a full table cloth. However either can add color quickly to a neutral dining area. You can buy a table runner inexpensively for between $10-$20. You can make your own table runners with just a few yards of fabric. Table runner are also nice because they are easy to store and change out for difference occasions.
Home Accessories
One of my favorite ways to add color on the cheap is home accessories. These finishing touches can add so much to a room besides color; personality, style, and memories. Curtains
Curtains can be expensive, however often if you watch around you can find stores that have sales or clearance items. In my family we always check out the clearance area for deals. Curtains are great items to add color to a room because they serve two purpose…style and privacy.One tip for adding curtains cheaply is to buy white curtains. They are usually cheaper and can be altered to add color besides more white. For example you can dye white colors an accent color or simply paint a color stripe on the fabric.
Paint an Accent Wall
Painting one wall in a room an accent color can be done with one quart of paint usually. Simply adding an accent wall gives a space a focal point and is more interesting than 4 neutral walls.
Easy and Low Commitment
What is great about most of these cheap ways to add color is they are easy to change out and you aren’t committing yourself to being stuck with one color forever. If in a few years you grow tired of a color you can again cheaply use these tips to redesign a room on a small budget.
