Over $150,000 in debt has led me to be extremely passionate about frugal home decorating. I want a beautifully decorated home, unfortunately because of my bad money decisions earlier life, I don’t have then luxury to budget much toward decorating my home.
Teeny-Tiny Home Budget
Currently I only have $15 per month budgeted for home decorating. This does not go far when it comes to designing a home’s interior. However, I am grateful for what I have and use my teeny-tiny budget creativity to stretch each dollar.
Benefits of a Limited Budget
Believe it or not, I think there are benefits to a limited decorating budget.
- More Creative -You are more creative decorating your home because you have to make your own home accessories, refinish furniture, repurpose items as decor, and think outside-the-box when it comes to what I need to furnish my home.
- Less Stuff – You also are less likely to over furnish your home with extra stuff because you spend your limited budget on only furnishings you need. Over furnishing your home is a home decorating no-no. Your home, I promise with look more appealing with fewer furnishings.
These benefits make your home more personal and meaningful to you, which I often think makes a house a home. The stories, people and personal items we put in our homes make them beautiful.

Frugal living is a way of life in my house, more so now than ever before. My wife gave up a higher paying job to be able to spend more time with our two girls. It was a sacrifice but well worth it.
Our budget is smaller, but our happiness is higher than ever. How could this be that we are more happy with less money? I think it is because we have traded money for a more family centered life.
We have less money now, so we stay in more, spending more time as a family than going out to do something. Money is tight at times, but we put our faith in God that He will provide for all that we need.
We don’t stress out about money. We have all that we need money wise. We need to make hard decisions and revise our budget to save for the things we need. We had to cut down on a lot of areas (cable, eating out, make our own cleaners, etc) to be able to get out of this debt mess and save for the things we need.

The Biggest Barrier
Often people tell me the major barrier that is keeping them from decorating their home is money. Which is understandable when you consider these statistics.
As of November 2014 according to Nerd Wallet, the average American household, has $15,593 in credit card debt, $153,184 in mortgage debt, $32,511 in student loan debt.
No Money Inspired Me
