Why Frugal Home Decorating Is My Passion

Over $150,000 in debt has led me to be extremely passionate about frugal home decorating. I want a beautifully decorated home, unfortunately because of my bad money decisions earlier life, I don’t have then luxury to budget much toward decorating my home.

Teeny-Tiny Home Budget

Currently I only have $15 per month budgeted for home decorating. This does not go far when it comes to designing a home’s interior. However, I am grateful for what I have and use my teeny-tiny budget creativity to stretch each dollar.

Benefits of a Limited Budget

Believe it or not, I think there are benefits to a limited decorating budget.

  1. More Creative -You are more creative decorating your home because you have to make your own home accessories, refinish furniture, repurpose items as decor, and think outside-the-box when it comes to what I need to furnish my home.
  2. Less Stuff – You also are less likely to over furnish your home with extra stuff because you spend your limited budget on only furnishings you need. Over furnishing your home is a home decorating no-no. Your home, I promise with look more appealing with fewer furnishings.

These benefits make your home more personal and meaningful to you, which I often think makes a house a home. The stories, people and personal items we put in our homes make them beautiful.

My Frugal Mantel Decor
This is my frugal mantel decor. Most of the items in this motif are thrift store finds, DIY projects, and personal items. You don’t need to much to make a focal point.

Check out how I made the piece of artwork over the mantel for only $5, How I Made an Incredible Piece of Artwork for $5.

Frugal Living

Frugal living is a way of life in my house, more so now than ever before. My wife gave up a higher paying job to be able to spend more time with our two girls. It was a sacrifice but well worth it.

Our budget is smaller, but our happiness is higher than ever. How could this be that we are more happy with less money? I think it is because we have traded money for a more family centered life.

We have less money now, so we stay in more, spending more time as a family than going out to do something. Money is tight at times, but we put our faith in God that He will provide for all that we need.

We don’t stress out about money. We have all that we need money wise. We need to make hard decisions and revise our budget to save for the things we need. We had to cut down on a lot of areas (cable, eating out, make our own cleaners, etc) to be able to get out of this debt mess and save for the things we need.

My Frugal Home Decorating Can Helps You

So how does my debt and extremely tiny home decorating budget help you?

That is simple, regardless of how small or large your decorating budget is, the frugal home decorating advice, DIY projects, and ideas I am sharing can help you make the most of your dollars.

We all want to get the biggest bang for our dollar. Having a limited budget, makes me do work hard to get the best deals, save money, and only furnish my home with want we need. The things I do to decorate my house I hope will inspire you to be wise and creativity when furnishing your home.

The Biggest Barrier

Often people tell me the major barrier that is keeping them from decorating their home is money. Which is understandable when you consider these statistics.

As of November 2014 according to Nerd Wallet, the average American household, has $15,593 in credit card debt, $153,184 in mortgage debt, $32,511 in student loan debt.

Money is not a Barrier

No Money Inspired Me

So I know I am not the only one out there that has limited decorating budget. This inspired me to be passionate about frugal home decorating and to start writing about my experience.

To share my thoughts, ideas and advice about frugal home decorating I started Decorating With Less. The “With Less” means two things; with less money and less things.

My two goals are:

  1. To help you learn ways to decorate your home with less money.
  2. Decorate your home with less decor and furnishings.

I want you to know how to decorate your home on any budget and where to best to spend your money. On any budget, you can have a beautiful home.

I hope you comeback and join me on my journey to decorate my home on a $15 per month budget. I promise to you that you will learn something that you can apply in your home decorating.
