Here’s a quick introduction to what home decorating means, as I define it on the blog, and some resources to help you set yourself on the path of decorating your home.
“Home Decorating” Defined
Home decorating is the sweet frosting on a birthday cake…and who doesn’t love the frosting. I like to say home decorating is what give a home life and personality.
How do I define home decorating…
Home decorating is selecting furniture, furnishings, colors to give a home function and style that mean the needs of those who call the house home.
Let me quickly go a little deeper into what that definition means. When you are decorating your home you maybe doing the following actions…
- Picking out a new sofa for your living room.
- Selecting paint colors for your master bedroom.
- Adding home decor accessories to your mantle (vases, candles, books, decorative objects, pillows, etc).
- Putting up curtains.
- Hanging pictures and artwork.
The goal is when doing these activity is to of course have FUN…because if is not fun then why do it and…
…to enhance the space to meet your needs (function) and your desired style (a.k.a. traditional, modern, eclectic, industrial).
If picking out paint colors, furniture or home accessories frighten you…you have come to the right place. I will walk you through the process of turning an empty room into the room of your dreams.
One of the biggest barriers you keeping you from decorating your home is…MONEY. I completely understand that barrier because it is one of my greatest barriers that keeps me from quickly designing the home of my dreams.
Check out my post, Why Frugal Home Decorating is My Passion, to learn more about my financial struggles.

- Sharing smart ways to save money when decorating and designing your home.
- Helping you best use your decorating budget to get the biggest impact.
- Letting you know where to shop to get the best deals on home decor.
- Giving you resources to help you save money and manage your expenses when purchasing home decor.
Decorating your home doesn’t have to be expensive and the fact is you can create a beautiful on any budget…even a shoestring budget. I will show you how.
